We can change the world

Welcome to my new Blog Web Site.

I firmly believe that we can change the world if we really want to.

First of all, I don’t think that there should be any homelessness in the world. I don’t know how on earth we have created a system which means thousands of people don’t have a home.

We are very smart people who have invented many great things. We have eradicated diseases which used to cause millions of deaths. We have sent rockets to the moon. We have created the world-wide web where everyone can communicate across the globe. And yet, we still have a world where homelessness exists in every country in the world.

I have been working towards simple practical solutions since 1993. This work has involved simple concepts such as “a hand up rather than a hand out” and “giving homeless people an individual profile – they are human beings, not statistics” – based around the value that homelessness simply should not exist.

Since 1993 we have been successful in creating foundations and pathways where homeless people could use their own abilities to change their lives. With street papers and the Homeless World Cup we have managed to build a movement were hundreds of people have helped change the lives of hundreds of thousands of people.

But so much more needs to be done. And that is why I have decided to create this blog to write about it.

I will write about homelessness and its solutions.

I will write about sport and how it has real power to inspire and create genuine change.

I will write about how we need to create a new global economic system in a constructive and positive manner which will point to potential solutions rather than moaning about the current state of the world. And please join in. Please spread the word. Let me know what you think.

We do live in difficult times but there are huge opportunities out there to change the world. Is the glass half full or half empty? My attitude is that it is half full and our collective aim is to fill up the empty half!

Exciting times.
